HOW TO USE THE PROGRAM
The program was designed to be delivered to preK-grade 6 aged children by someone with some medical knowledge. This gives the program and the message, more credibility. Additionally, the teachers who have reviewed the material for us all indicated that they did not feel "capable" of delivering this information in the same way that someone with some medical background could, nor could they adequately answer questions, particularly from older children. Volunteers teaching this program might include dermatologist, dermatology residents, pediatricians, pediatric residents, other physicians with special interest in this area, school nurses, nursing students, communitynurses, etc.
Presentation 1 was designed for children pre-K-grade 2 and works well with the Molly The Mole Coloring Book.
Presentation 2 was designed for children in grades 3-6 and work well with the Sun Smart Kids Cool School ProgramActivity Book.
The PowerPoint presentations were designed for small group formats. They are ideal for small assemblies of 50 children, and works extremely well for individual classroom use. Although the PowerPoint presentations certainly will work for larger groups, you would need a large LCD projector to project images of a size suitable for larger groups.
What you'll need:
1. A computer (laptop, if you are going portable) which will handle PowerPoint. These are graphic intense files and require a modern laptop with sufficient processor speed and graphic card power to handle them without freezing or taking forever to load. If you do not have PowerPoint loaded on your computer already, there is PowerPoint presentation but not editing software available at Microsoft website at no charge. Go to Microsoft website and in search box in upper right hand corner, enter "PowerPoint". Click on " download the PowerPoint viewer" on the next screen.
2. An LCD projector (some schools and possibly your affiliated hospital or medical group may have one of these to "borrow". Alternatively, these can be rented at local stores which sell or rent audiovisual equipment). Stores like Office Max are also selling these. It is possible to have the PowerPoint presentation converted to slides, if all else fails.
3. Either a screen, or write erase white board (available in most classrooms).
